Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present a paper at the PME national meeting at MathFest in Boulder, Colorado?
We plan to have a few students attending the MathFest in Boulder this summer and expect at least one student presentation, hopefully more!
Describe the two most interesting or unusual chapter activities this year:
1:
We enjoyed a visit from Professor Brian Alspach, University of Regina, Canada, on February 5. Brian showed us "An Induction Proof to Remember" and we ate yummy pizza.
2:
On April 18 we hosted our annual banquet and initiation ceremony. There were 50 in attendance and our guest speaker (entertainer!) was Professor Arthur Benjamin, Harvey Mudd College. His MATHeMAGICS show and discussion was excellent and everyone had a wonderful time.
Do you have any news about current students or recent graduates? For example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences. :
Two of this years' inductees competed in the Putnam Exam and placed individually. They are Patrick Bennett and Adam Winchester. Kelly Hogan (graduated from UNLV with B.S. in 2000) completed her master's degree from Washington State University in 2002 and will begin working for the NSA this summer.
