Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present a paper at the PME national meeting at MathFest in Boulder, Colorado?

We are not sure at this time.

Describe the two most interesting or unusual chapter activities this year:

1:

Pi Mu Epsilon initiation ceremony of April 9, 2003. The speaker was Henry C. Wente, Distinguished University Professor of Mathematics at The University of Toledo. Dr. Wente talked about Liquid Drops and Soap Films: History, Theory, and Applications. He was introduced by Dr. Robert W. Ghrist, Associate Professor of Mathematics, the University of Illinois, Urbana. Dr. Ghrist took nine math courses as an undergraduate from Professor Wente at The University of Toledo and came here to honor him. Professor Wente is known for solving the Hopf conjecture by providing a counterexample that is a surface in 3-space that has constant mean curvature and which is not a sphere. Approximately 40 people attended the meeting, which was a joint meeting with Delta X, a math interest group.

2:

We have also shown these math videos: John von Neumann; two by Marston Morse on Pits, Peaks, and Passes; and one about Richard Courant, Goettingen and New York -- all during the month of April, 2003.

Do you have any news about current students or recent graduates? For example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences. :

No.
