Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present a paper at the PME national meeting at MathFest in Providence, Rhode Island?

No.

Describe the two most interesting or unusual chapter activities this year:

In the fall of the past year we hosted a talk by Ken Henderson, president of a local software company called IO Software. He talked about the challenges he faces in his business and what type of individual might be successful working at his company. He brought along one of our recent computer science graduates, now working for IO Software, and showed off some of her recent work for the company.

The chapter advisors chose certain mathematics and computer science problems for solution by our students. We offered an incentive of a $40 gift certificate at the McNeese bookstore. The students presented their solutions at our regular meetings. We were all quite favorably impressed. Some of our students are quite proficient with PowerPoint. We ended up rewarding $160 in all for this year.

Do you have any news about current students or recent graduates? For example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences. :

Julia Sanders is a graduate student in The University of Texas School of Public Health, one of six schools of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
