Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present a paper at the PME national meeting at MathFest in Albuquerque, New Mexico?

Two or three members tentatively plan to attend..

Describe the two most interesting or unusual chapter activities this year:

National Councilor Eve Torrence from Randolph-Macon College gave the 2005 Pi Mu Epsilon Lecture for our annual induction ceremony in April.  Her talk was entitled "In Pursuit of Simple Beauty - Mathematics and Origami".  Her visit to Hood was a result of the chapter's receipt of a  Pi Mu Epsilon Lectureship and Enhancement Award.

Pi Mu Epsilon book awards were given to two outstanding senior PME members, Alen Agheksanterian and Meagan Hopkins, thanks to a Pi Mu Epsilon Chapter Grant.  They both received a copy of Euler, Master of Us All, autographed by the author.

Do you have any news about current students or recent graduates? For example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences. :

Nathan Edington, a 2004 graduate, won an award at the 2004 Mathfest for an outstanding paper - Computer Implementation of Five Important Approximations to Pi.  Nathan will begin graduate school in mathematics this fall at the University of Georgia.

Alen Agheksanterian, a 2005 graduate, will begin graduate school in applied mathematics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Jennifer Webb, a former graduate, has completed a master's degree in computer science at American University.
