Describe the two most interesting or unusual chapter activities this year:
During the fall semester, we held our annual Math Formal which doubles as our Pi Mu Epsilon initiation ceremony. The event was titled "A Night of Magic" and our guest speaker was Dr. Art Benjamin of Harvey Mudd College who spoke about Mathemagic. We invited the Harvey Mudd student Math Club and had about 10 students and two faculty in attendance from HMC. Our formal evening began with the PME initiation ceremony, followed by a lovely buffet dinner, the entertaining talk from Dr. Benjamin, and then an evening of dancing until the late hours. A wonderful time was had by all in attendance!
During the spring semester, we held our annual celebration of Pi Day. The day involved wearing temporary Pi Day tattoos, throwing pies at math professor and a grand hands-free pie eating contest. It was a great day!
Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present a paper at the PME national meeting at MathFest in Knoxville, Tennessee?
No.
Do you have any news about current students or recent graduates? For example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences. :
A former member, Maura Mahler, was accepted to an MBA program at Ohio State and will begin her studies this fall. Ashley Tucker completed her Fulbright Scholarship in Argentina and returned to the United States where she is now a high school math teacher in Arizona.
