Describe the two most interesting or unusual chapter activities this year:

Dr. Marjorie Senechal of Smith College gave the 2006 Pi Mu Epsilon Lecture for our annual induction ceremony in May. Her talk was entitled "Is There a 3-D Penrose Tiling?"

Do any of your chapter members plan to attend or present a paper at the PME national meeting at MathFest in Knoxville, Tennessee?

Possibly.

Do you have any news about current students or recent graduates? For example, scholarships or other awards, acceptances to graduate school, paper presentations at conferences. :

Three members, Kathryn Linehan, Beverly Raffa, and Kelly Schultz gave talks at the spring sectional meeting of the MAA at Loyola College in Baltimore. Kathryn received third place in the undergraduate original research category and Beverly placed first in the expository category.

Six graduating members will continue their studies this fall: three in mathematics, one at the University of Maryland, one at Towson University, and one at George Mason University, one in law at Washington and Lee University, one in economics at the University of Arizona, and one in intercultural studies at Wheaton College.

Grant Report:

Pi Mu Epsilon book awards were given to two outstanding senior PME members, Sarah Keely and Carol Jim, thanks to a Pi Mu Epsilon Chapter Grant. They both received a copy of Calculus Gallery, autographed by the author William Dunham.
