Your faculty advisor can help you locate a copy of this publication. Here you will find details about social events, preliminary information about speakers, their topics, and much more. Such information may also be found at the MAA's web site (http://www.maa.org/meetings/mf3_frontpage.html).
Preregistration: For "Early Bird" registration, the Advanced Registration form must be returned to the MMSB by the indicated date. For regular registration, the Advanced Registration form must be returned by the indicated date. If you plan to stay in university housing, the "Housing Reservation" form must be received by MMSB by the indicated date. Please be sure to indicate on this form that you will be attending the PME/MAA awards banquet, because it is one of the high points of the meeting. Here are three other good reasons to come: (1) The best papers and presentations are officially recognized and monetary awards are presented at the banquet. These awards are underwritten by PME, the American Mathematical Society, and the Council on Undergraduate Research. (2) If you are accepting PME funding, you are required to attend the banquet. (3) The subsistence allowance for student speakers covers the cost of the banquet as one of your non-transportation expenses.
Lodging: For economic reasons (and others also), most student speakers choose to stay in university housing (see MathFest Housing on the MAA web site). We recommend this choice to each of you, but of course you may decide to stay elsewhere -- that is up to you.
Special Notes: For many years, PME supported the travel expenses of student speakers, but was not able to help with other expenses. However, for 12 of the last 14 years, PME has received a grant from the National Security Agency that has made it possible to partially reimburse student speakers for some of their nontransportation expenses. We are happy to note that NSA has again provided a grant that will allow Pi Mu Epsilon to help student speakers with part of their expenses for food and lodging. You will receive a check to cover this partial reimbursement at the meeting.
Reimbursement: A form, "Application for Travel Expenses," will be sent to each student who submits a paper. This form should be completed and presented to PME's Secretary/Treasurer, Leo Schneider, at the student reception on Wednesday. Checks to cover the speakers' (and delegates') transportation cost will be distributed at the meeting, after the Frame Lecture on Friday evening.
Work Problems: If it will help you get time off from work to attend this meeting, PME will list your employer's business name in the meeting program.
