We invite you to join us at the Annual Conference of Pi Mu Epsilon to be held in conjunction with the MAA's MathFest in San Jose, California, Thursday afternoon August 2 through Saturday evening, August 4, 2007. Any student member of Pi Mu Epsilon who will be attending the conference will be acknowledged in our student program for the meeting if they register. We can fund up to $600 of transportation expenses for one student speaker from each Pi Mu Epsilon Chapter. (Some additional reimbursement is available if more than one student from your chapter makes a presentation.) If no one from your chapter plans on giving a paper, we can fund up to half (with a maximum of $300) of the transportation expenses for one delegate. To qualify for the reimbursement you must attend the full meeting of Pi Mu Epsilon from the PME-MAA Student Reception to the conclusion of the Frame Lecture, unless you have written consent for an exemption from the President of Pi Mu Epsilon. Students should plan to attend all student-related activities at MathFest, and are strongly encouraged to avail themselves of the opportunity to attend as many of the talks, panels, minicourses, etc. that don't conflict with PME activities. For a complete set of speaker and delegate benefits and responsibilities, please check our "fine print."

Talks may be on any mathematical topic or application in areas such as statistics, computing, or operations research. The presentation time for each talk is fifteen minutes. We welcome topics including expository research, interesting applications, problems, etc. The American Mathematical Society [AMS] gives PME an annual grant to be used for cash awards to students whose exposition and research are exemplary. The Council for Undergraduate Research [CUR] offers a monetary prize for the best research paper. In addition the MAA's Special Interest Groups for Environmental Mathematics [SIGMAA-EM] and for Biology [BioSIGMAA], and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics [SIAM] all offer PME cash awards to give to students presenting research that these organizations consider to be especially applicable to their respective specialities.

Students should see their Pi Mu Epsilon Faculty Advisors for more information about attending the MAA's MathFest 2007 and for an appropriate topic for a student talk at our 2007 PME Conference.
