ORDER CERTIFICATES FOR NEW
MEMBERS FROM PME COUNCILOR
PROFESSOR ANGELA SPALSBURY DEPT.
OF MATHEMATICS AND STATISTICS YOUNGSTOWN STATE UNIVERSITY YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO 44555 Voice:330-941-1803 Email:
membership@pme-math.org
I. Instructions for ordering
certificates:
A. Preferred method:
1. Download an Excel enrollment form from this site, or request
one from
membership@pme-math.org 2. Complete the Excel form, save it, and
print two copies. One copy is for your files. Send the other
copy to Professor Spalsbury by first class mail, enclosing your check made payable
to: Pi Mu Epsilon. 3. Email the completed Excel
form to
membership@pme-math.org as an attachment.
B. Traditional method: Get a printed Certificate Enrollment
Form from Professor Spalsbury, complete it, make three copies, and send two copies to Professor Spalsbury with
your check ( made payable
to: Pi Mu Epsilon). Keep one copy for your files.
II. Comments on certificate
orders:
We cannot process enrollment forms that do not include the new members'
addresses. Be sure to use an address so our journal will reach the
member for the next calendar year -- that usually means a permanent home
address.
If there is an error in a certificate mailed to your chapter, tell Professor Spalsbury
and she will replace it. If the error was made by her office, there
will be no charge; otherwise, there will be a $2 charge for each
replacement certificate.
Certificates and other items ordered will ordinarily be mailed to you
within 10 days of the receipt of your payment. Occasionally,
emergency quick turn-arounds can be arranged.
III. Timing: We will work with you in
whatever way we can to get the Certificates of Membership in your hands for
presentation to your initiates at your initiation ceremony. This is
the ordinary schedule we will try to maintain:
If you use U.S. Mail to submit your signed Membership Enrollment Form with
your check, then you should be able to present your certificates to your
initiates no earlier than 15 days after your letter is posted.
If you attach your Membership Enrollment Form to an email to Professor Spalsbury and
simultaneously use U.S. Mail to send a signed printed copy of the form
with your check, then you should be able to present your certificates to
your initiates no earlier than 11 days after both of these events have
occurred.
Exceptions to timing: Remember that ours is a volunteer organization. Lots of work is done by student helpers. During vacations when students are gone, the work takes much longer and is not as accurate. Therefore, if timing is critical for your membership certificates, check Youngtown State's academic calendar at http://cfweb.cc.ysu.edu/calendar/intro.cfm, and if it looks as if there might be a problem check with Professor Spalsbury at membership@pme-math.org. Look especially at the dates for:
Holiday vacations for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.
Fall, winter, and spring breaks, and summer vacation.
Fall and spring weeks of final examinations.
IV. Some things you can do to help us serve
you better:
Tell Professor Spalsbury if there is any change in the identity or email address of
your faculty advisor.
If you need to contact any of the national officers, email is
best. The email addresses of all national Pi Mu Epsilon officers can
be found elsewhere on this website.
We try to do our best to help our members, but please remember that
PME is staffed by volunteers with full teaching loads, occasionally
assisted by students. Anything you can do to make our tasks easier
will be appreciated and will help hold PME expenses down.
Help us help other PME chapters by emailing your chapter reports and
other information about interesting chapter activities to our webmaster.
Copies of the "Constitution and Bylaws" can be ordered from Professor Spalsbury.
The cost is $1 per copy.
